Our Philosophy

The philosophy of The King Arts Complex is to foster an appreciation of diversity of people and the richness it offers by presenting exciting opportunities for all the senses to be aroused. A diverse perspective is a global perspective.

Our philosophy is implemented and supported by our belief statements:

  • Artists are an integral part of awakening a sense of identity and purpose within the African-American community and the community at large;
  • The Complex is an anchor for both culture development and economic development within the immediate area (Near Eastside) and Greater Columbus community;
  • Youth and adults will interact with The Complex to develop artistic talents and to learn about a heritage that is a vital part of American history, the African-American experience;
  • The Complex will provide access and opportunities for people of all backgrounds and to discover and appreciate the contributions of African-Americans;
    Cross-cultural learning by exposure to our similarities is vital to developing an appreciation of self;
  • Creative vehicles are often the best mechanism for communication and education; and,
  • Self-esteem enhancements and self-actualization are important long-term outcomes for all programming.
